Hi les1,
I couldn't agree with you more! We have been living off grid in the Cascade Mnts. of Washington, USA for about five years now. We decided to go off grid for quality of life reasons.

This sure has paid off in a big way. One learns what is really important in life when one depends on the earth to feed them. Our vegetable garden is crucial to us. As are the animals we raise for food.

Whether I am planting, harvesting, feeding, or slaughtering, there is a very spiritual aspect to it all. And the respect we have learned for nature and life has also changed the way we relate to people. We are more "lay back" and understanding.

I like your chickadee friend. I too have some chickadee friends, and crow friends, and raccoon friends and I can't forget Wilson the squirrel who keeps me company in the garden.

Cheers,
Michael

My wife and I found ourselves in a similar situation. When we decided to live off grid we had silence on the phone when informing parents. No one understood why and they had no idea of what that could look like. It has been 4 years now and we will continue this journey, there is a joy and peace in being self-sufficient off grid.

I could not agree with you more. Why would I want to sell my house? My wife, children and I are doing the same thing you did. I enjoy reading on your site....good information for those intereted in following along. I will say off grid is not for everyone.
